Brandon Pfaadt hopes to stop an Arizona Diamondbacks three-game losing streak when he faces All-Star Casey Mize and the Detroit Tigers.

On a day right-handed starter Reese Olson (shoulder) was lost for the rest of the season and veteran Chris Paddack was acquired in a trade from the Twins, Melton, calmly and coolly blanked the Arizona Diamondbacks for seven innings Monday night and the Tigers took the opener of the three-game series 5-1 at Comerica Park.

Detroit had baserunners in every inning but didn’t break through until the fourth against Arizona starter Brandon Pfaadt. Riley Greene doubled, Wenceel Pérez singled and stole second, and red-hot Dillon Dingler drove both of them home.

Troy Melton had just his second MLB start on Monday night, and he ended up leading the Tigers to a win by pitching seven scoreless innings.

Third baseman Eugenio Suarez is in his second season with the Arizona Diamondbacks after making his big-league debut in 2014. The 33-year-old right-handed power bat established himself as an offensive threat during his seven-year tenure with the Cincinnati Reds, where he made his first All-Star team in 2018 and smashed 189 home runs in 916 games.

It’s Tuesday, July 29 and the Diamondbacks (51-56) are in Detroit to take on the Tigers (62-46). Brandon Pfaadt is slated to take the mound for Arizona against Casey Mize for Detroit. The Tigers took the series opener over the DBacks, 5-1. Detorit has now won two straight, which is great news since they are 3-8 since the All-Star break.
