"Melissa is expected to reach southeastern Cuba as an extremely dangerous major hurricane, and it could still be a major hurricane when it moves across the southeastern Bahamas," the NHC adds. US hurricane hunting planes will be out later tonight to gather more information about Melissa's path.
The Caribbean storm — among the most powerful in history, with 185 mph winds — is expected to bring flash-flooding and landslides as it slowly moves across the island and heads north toward Cuba.

Jamaicans in the UK have said they are "worried" about their friends and family, as Storm Melissa closes in on the country. Forecasters believe the storm could be the strongest hurricane ever to hit Jamaica, with winds of 175mph (282km/h).
