A large fire broke out at a Hindu religious festival, the Maha Kumbh Mela, in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh on Sunday, but the blaze was quickly brought under control and no injuries were reported,

"Two cylinders exploded in Sector 19 of the Maha Kumbh Mela, causing a massive fire in the camps. Fire fighters are trying to douse the blaze," Akhara Police Station in-charge Bhaskar Mishra was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.

A major fire broke out at the Maha Kumbh Mela on Sunday evening in Sector 19 near Malepur Ghat, Narnoor, caused by an LPG cylinder explosion. The blaze engulfed 18 tents, leading to thick clouds of smoke that spread across the fair area and caused panic among nearby akhadas. Fortunately, no casualties were reported in the incident.

The Uttar Pradesh government has issued a fire safety advisory for all camps at the ongoing Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, urging people to take necessary precautions and act swiftly in case of a fire or emergency.

The Shri Hari Divya Sadhana Peeth camp, situated on the Sangam Lower Road in Sector 16, next to the Kinnar Akhara, reported having witnessed the fire incident.

Local officials of the administration along with police and fire department officials have started efforts to control the fire.
