Monster Hurricane Melissa nears Jamaica

Hurricane Melissa is expected to continue strengthening and become a Category 5 hurricane, according to the NHC, Saturday, Oct. 25.
Most forecast models show the hurricane moving on a path that would keep it well east of Florida. The East Coast of the United States has been spared a direct hit from a hurricane so far this year, and forecasters’ models suggest that it is likely to avoid Melissa, too.
Though the risk to Florida is low, parts of the Caribbean are in peril. Tropical Storm Melissa is expected to power up to a major hurricane. Though its chances of affecting Florida are low, it can't be ruled out.
