Environment Canada's tornado warning for eastern Ontario has ended. From about 3:20 until 4 p.m. the agency said a severe thunderstorm could possibly produce a tornado in communities such as Kemptville and Merrickville. It's not yet known if a tornado formed.

A humid and unstable airmass draped across the region fuelled a favourable setup for strong to severe thunderstorms. One of the storms acquired rotation near the community of Lucan, resulting in a short-lived tornado.
The National Weather Service in Buffalo has confirmed that a tornado touched down in Phelps on the evening of Monday, July 7. Rated an EF-2, the tornado had peak winds of 115 mph, a path length of 1.7 miles, and a maximum width of 300 yards. The twister was on the ground for 10 minutes, between 6:27 and 6:37 p.m.
