One of the major stories from Sunday’s qualifying sessions at the Indianapolis 500 was Team Penske withdrawing both the No. 2 car of Josef Newgarden and the No. 12 car of Will Power, after technical inspections found a modified attenuator on both cars.

Later, after "Fast Twelve" qualifying began, the Penske cars of Power and Newgarden abruptly pulled out of line and headed back to Gasoline Alley. IndyCar announced that the two cars had failed pre-qualifying tech inspection and will not be allowed to qualify.
