SAN JOSE -- Lucas Carlsson scored the game-winning goal with 3:23 left in the third period, and the San Jose Sharks defeated the Boston Bruins 3-1 at SAP Center on Saturday.

The Sharks defenseman scored with 3:23 left to lift his club to a 3-1 win over the Bruins in his first career game with the team.

Lucas Carlsson scored the go-ahead goal — his first of the season — with 3:23 left in the game and the San Jose Sharks topped the Boston Bruins 3-1.

The Boston Bruins have now lost four in a row and are five points back of the second wild-card slot in the East.

Boston (30-30-9, 69 points), seventh in the Atlantic Division, is four points behind the Canadiens (33-27-7, 73 points), who have two games in hand, for the final playoff berth.
