Bills introduced by Republicans in the Texas Senate would require the Ten Commandments to be displayed in public schools and allow for schools to carve out time for students to read the Bible, in the latest effort by lawmakers in states to infuse religious doctrine in public education.

Members of the Georgia General Assembly filed a bill to require all public elementary and secondary schools to display copies of the Ten Commandments in various locations on campuses across the state.

A bill that would require all South Dakota classrooms to display the Ten Commandments is one step closer to becoming law. After nearly two hours of testimony and debate, the House Education Committee voted 8-7 to pass Senate Bill 51.
