After being dismissed for 374, India managed to keep a lead of 227 runs as the bowlers managed to make short work of Bangladesh batters.

Bangladesh pace bowler Hasan Mahmud picked up his second five-wicket haul in a row as India was bowled out for 376 runs in its first innings on Day 2 of the first cricket test.

A Bangladeshi cricket fan has alleged harassment against the Indian cricket fans during the ongoing opening Test at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. In a video surfaced on social media, the Bangladeshi fan was heard indicating that the fans at the stadium was seen mocking him 'Mauka Mauka'. The incident reportedly occurred on day 1.

Jasprit Bumrah's eventual figures of 4-50 meant that he now has 37 Test wickets in nine home Tests, at an incredible average of 15.94.

Ravichandran Ashwin scored his sixth test hundred as he and Ravindra Jadeja dug India's cricketers out of trouble against Bangladesh on day one of the first test.

Bangladesh were alive in the game and fighting when off-spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz troubled the Indian batters with a five-wicket haul while defending a target of just 145 runs. In his five-for, Miraz dismissed Pujara, Gill, Kohli, Pant and Axar and had India reeling at 74/7. But, his effort went in vain as Iyer and Ashwin took India home.

Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto won the toss on Thursday and decided to send India in to bat in the first cricket test. India was playing a test for the first time since March when it beat England 4-1 in a five-match series in India.

For India, Jasprit Bumrah took four wickets, while Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep picked two wickets each.
