The Olathe Police Department is sending a warning to families to be aware of a new phone scam that claims their loved one has been kidnapped.

Area officers are warning people of scammers using artificial intelligence (AI) to clone their loved ones’ voices.

"These images are sent to family members while criminals claim a loved one has been kidnapped and demand money."

Police said one of their own employees received this call, where people may hear someone in the background crying and asking for help.
