The Los Angeles Dodgers expect Shohei Ohtani to return to the pitcher’s mound at some point this season, but the target date for his return has been fluid throughout the offseason and remains so at the beginning of the regular season.

Ohtani is the second Japanese-born player to hit a home run in an MLB game played in Japan, joining Hideki Matsui. Matsui hit a two-run home run for the New York Yankees against the Tampa Bay Devil Rays at the Tokyo Dome on March 31, 2004.

Ohtani had two hits and scored two runs. Yoshinobu Yamamoto combined with the bullpen to hold the Cubs to one run on three hits.
