Forecasters have been monitoring the upcoming coastal storm for several days and now have confidence in the likely track.
"Continuing to monitor latest developments regarding a significant coastal storm which could affect Southern New England Sunday," the weather service said in its forecast discussion. "There is a growing potential for accumulating snow and gusty winds for Cape Cod, the Islands and perhaps further westward into South Shore and the I-95 corridor."

The heaviest snowfall is forecast for Sunday afternoon into Monday morning, impacting the Monday commute. The National Weather Service predicts Rhode Island will likely receive between 12 and 18 inches of snow.
With a major snow storm predicted to hit Rhode Island starting Sunday, Jan. 25, cancellations have been pouring in.
"Travel will be difficult, especially Sunday night into Monday morning when accumulation rates will be highest," the weather service said.
It's safe to say no one was spared from the massive snowstorm that moved across the Northeast over the weekend.
