The New York Giants announced their initial 53-man roster yesterday, but they've already made two key adjustments through waivers. Today, they added defensive backs Beau Brade and Rico Payton to address depth in their secondary.
The Saints added former Buccaneers receiver Trey Palmer and former Broncos offensive lineman Xavier Truss on waivers, meaning they will have to create two spots on the 53-man roster for them. Former Saints D'Marco Jackson and Rico Payton landed with the Bears and Giants, respectively.
After making their claims, the Giants were awarded safety Beau Brade and cornerback Rico Payton off of waivers. Following the 2024 NFL draft, the 23-year-old Brade signed with the Baltimore Ravens as an undrafted rookie free agent out of Maryland, where he was a teammate of current Giants cornerback Deonte Banks.
Payton (illness) was claimed off waivers by the Giants on Wednesday, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports. Payton was waived by the Saints on Tuesday but found a new home in the Big Apple. Through 16 games last season, Payton mostly played on special teams but recorded 11 tackles (six solo). He'll likely serve in a similar role in New York.
