BISMARCK — A bill that would have required the Ten Commandments to be posted in all public schools in North Dakota was the subject of a lengthy House floor fight on Wednesday before eventually being voted down 53-38.

Bills introduced by Republicans in the Texas Senate would require the Ten Commandments to be displayed in public schools and allow for schools to carve out time for students to read the Bible, in the latest effort by lawmakers in states to infuse religious doctrine in public education.

Members of the Georgia General Assembly filed a bill to require all public elementary and secondary schools to display copies of the Ten Commandments in various locations on campuses across the state.
