A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for parts of Central Texas from early Saturday until the late morning hours on Sunday. This will create some wintry conditions, including an ice threat in the area. Ahead of the weekend, TxDOT has started pretreating major roadways with a saltwater solution in an effort to prevent ice from forming.
TxDOT is preparing for this winter storm with a brine treatment despite a rainy forecast. As KPRC 2’s Gage Goulding pointed out this week: Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania’s Interim Director of Public Works is not impressed.

Traffic update: I-10 faces delays, US 69 mostly clear

On Friday morning, crews with the Texas Department of Transportation opened the Thorn overpass on I-10 in West El Paso.
HOUSTON — The Texas Department of Transportation is expected to hit the roads in Houston to prepare for this weekend's freezing weather. Crews are set to spray a brine solution on major freeways and roadways in the Houston area to help slow the formation of ice.
TxDOT told KSAT that maintenance crews will begin pretreating roadways Thursday morning, focusing first on the Hill Country — including Kerrville and Boerne — and on northern parts of San Antonio.
In partnership with the Texas A&M Transportation Institute, UNT is using a $400,000 grant to focus on how the technology could make commutes safer.
