KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A measles outbreak continues to plague Kansans, and the number of cases in Missouri also continues to climb. In May, FOX4 reported that there were 56 confirmed cases of measles in Kansas. That number now stands at 87, according to the Kansas Division of Public Health.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says the U.S. is currently experiencing its worst measles outbreak in more than 30 years, according to the Associated Press. On Wednesday, the CDC said the 2025 case count has surpassed the 2019 count, when there were 1,274 cases for the year.
The southwest Kansas measles outbreak continues to grow, but some counties have reached resolved status while others remain active, KDHE data show.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention count, updated Wednesday, is 14 more cases than in all of 2019, when the U.S. almost lost its status of having eliminated measles. There've been three deaths in the U.S. this year, and all were unvaccinated: two elementary school-aged children in West Texas and an adult in New Mexico.
PUTNAM COUNTY, Ind. — The first case of measles in central Indiana was confirmed in Putnam County. The Putnam County Health Department said there is not an outbreak and the risk to the public remains low. In a statement posted online, the health department encouraged people to get the MMR vaccine (measles, mumps, rubella).
