Thailand’s government has ordered officials to closely monitor livestock along the border with Laos after more than 50 people were reported to have contracted anthrax in the neighboring country.
Thailand last reported human anthrax cases in 2017, when two people were infected without fatalities. In 2000, 15 cases were recorded, also without deaths.
BANGKOK (Agencies): Thailand has intensified its vigilance along the Thai-Laos border after receiving reports of anthrax outbreaks in local villages in Champasack Province, Laos.
Thailand has had no reports of human anthrax cases since 2001. The most it has ever reported in a single year is 102, in 1995, according to the ministry of public health.
