New Jersey voters will decide a competitive race for governor Tuesday in a contest that will be viewed through the prism of national politics regardless of who wins.
There’s a huge spotlight on New Jersey’s elections this year as voters are set to select the state’s first new governor since 2018. The marquee race this fall will determine who takes over for term-limited Democrat Phil Murphy and how much the state changes over the next four years.
Her lead is slightly smaller in a co/efficient poll (1 percent) with Sherrill at 48 percent and Ciattarelli at 47 percent. Some 995 voters were surveyed between October 23 and 27. Newsweek has contacted Ciattarelli, via online contact form, to ask its margin of error.
While attention has been paid largely to the competitive race for New Jersey governor, Garden State voters should also know that the entire General Assembly is up for grabs in November's general election. All 80 seats in the Legislature's lower chamber will be on the ballot. The current breakdown of the Assembly is 52 Democrats and 28 Republicans.
Obama will join Sherrill, who represents New Jersey’s 11th Congressional District and is now running for governor, along with other Democratic leaders at the "Get Out the Vote" rally. Organizers say the event aims to fire up supporters and encourage turnout for Democrats "up and down the ballot."
