Jacques Audiard’s “Emilia Pérez” took home the prize for best film not in the English language at the BAFTA Awards on Sunday night, despite controversy over star Karla Sofía Gascón’s offensive tweets.

Two weeks after Emilia Pérez filmmaker Jacques Audiard disavowed his star Karla Sofía Gascón after the scandal around her bigoted social media posts, the director thanked Gascón by name while accepting best non-English film at Sunday's BAFTA Awards.

In addition to its two BAFTA wins, Emilia Pérez has won the Cannes Jury Prize, and four Golden Globes, including Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy. It received 13 nominations at the upcoming Oscars, including Best Picture.
