Hurricane Melissa is now a Category 5 hurricane, the third Category 5 hurricane of the 2025 season. This is first time since 2005 that we’ve had three Category 5 storms. At 5 pm, the eye of Hurricane Melissa was located near latitude 16.

Forecasters say Melissa poses little to no risk for Florida and the U.S. at this time.

Flash floods are projected to sweep through Jamaica on Monday and into Tuesday with parts of the island expected to receive as much as 40 inches of rain, according to the National Hurricane Center.
