With less than two weeks before election day, California voters appear poised to pass the state’s redistricting measure, Proposition 50, to counter Republican redistricting efforts in Texas to gain more seats in Congress.

Voters have a big decision to make with Prop 50, which would temporarily redraw California's congressional lines to boost Democrats. But a bigger question looms if the measure passes.

It’s common to see election observers at voting stations, but generally less so for them to come from the federal government. Some from the Trump administration will be on the ground in several California counties next month.

California voters will soon decide the fate of Proposition 50, a measure that would further embroil the state in the midst of a bitter conflict for control of the U.S. House of Representatives.

From the onset, supporters of California’s mid-cycle redistricting plan have called it a “response” to Republicans.

On Wednesday, former President Barack Obama joined California Gov. Gavin Newsom in a livestream for volunteers in support of Proposition 50, the governor’s redistricting measure, and the sole question on the ballot in the November 4 special election.
