The American Cancer Society reports about 1 in 8 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during their lifetime and there’s estimated to be more than 300,000 new cases of prostate cancer this year.

Prostate cancer occurs in the prostate gland which regulates hormone levels in men. If the cancer is aggressive and spreads throughout the body it can be deadly. Dr. Read said men must be vigilant about their screening and treatment in their older age.

According to Dr. Carson Wong, a Urologist at Marietta Memorial Hospital, the disease is a type of cancer that grows on the prostate gland.
