Notre Dame made history by defeating Indiana and collecting its first CFP win for the university and its recently extended head coach Marcus Freeman. While this is a great accomplishment, nobody in Notre Dame land is satisfied, everybody wants more, as they all should.

If Georgia playing Notre Dame in the Sugar Bowl has a classic ring to it, it should. A national championship hung in the balance when a freshman running back named Herschel Walker helped the 1980 Bulldogs capture a national title by beating the Fighting Irish 17-10 in the Sugar Bowl.

Forty-four years later to the day, Notre Dame and Georgia meet again in the Sugar Bowl, the venue for their College Football Playoff Quarterfinal matchup. The winner advances to the Orange Bowl and takes one step closer to winning the first title of the 12-team playoff era.
