Officials are looking to blame the bird flu for nearly a dozen geese found dead in the river at Rotary Park.The town is waiting for DEEP to remove the birds and investigate.Amanda Detorio said she walks around the Quinebaug often and was worried after seeing the birds’ bodies trapped in the ice.

Geese that were found dead near Quarry Pond in Gettysburg have since tested positive for avian influenza, according to officials.

Health officials in Ontario and Yates counties say there is no cause for immediate alarm; infections in the Finger Lakes bird population is not new.
