Jamaica could face days of hurricane conditions as Melissa set to rapidly intensify in the Caribbean
Jamaica and other parts of the Caribbean are staring down what could become a catastrophic, days-long assault of extreme rainfall and damaging winds.
Melissa strengthened into a deadly Category 5 hurricane Monday with catastrophic impacts expected across the Caribbean, similar to Sarasota last year.
A cold front is expected to push through the area mid-week, bringing pleasant temperatures and zero rain chances for those planning to trick-or-treat.
UNICEF is supporting emergency preparedness efforts as the strongest storm of the 2025 hurricane season approaches landfall.
"It is more than kind of distressing because you don't know when and you don't know how," said Ewan Simpson, who lives in Jamaica.
