Springer was hit by a pitch in the top of the first inning against the Pittsburgh Pirates, perhaps as restitution for the two teams' bench-clearing incident on Monday. Instead of escalating the situation, Springer simply waited a couple of innings, then launched a home run off pitcher Mitch Keller his next time up.

García has also pitched 2.1 scoreless playoff innings for the Blue Jays and had a 2.70 ERA in 29 appearances before they traded him to the Seattle Mariners last season. The right-hander then returned to Toronto on a two-year deal in December and didn't give up an earned run in March or April.
