A tropical disturbance moved over the Gulf of Mexico late Wednesday and it's expected to continue westward, approaching Texas in the coming days.

According to the National Weather Service in Houston/Galveston, the system remains disorganized, with only a 10% chance of developing into a tropical depression. Regardless of development, the disturbance is forecast to bring locally heavy rainfall—mainly along the coast—with totals of 1 to 2 inches and isolated higher amounts possible.

The Atlantic Basin (which includes the Gulf and Caribbean), has not had a named system since Tropical Storm Chantal moved inland in South Carolina on July 6. The last day of the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season will be Nov. 30.
