Alberta Wild Horses (2 mares) available. Near Innisfail, Alberta This is a video introduction for two wild mares that were captured during the 2015 cull, from the Ghost Equine Zone. The owners are seniors, with health issues, and can no longer work with horses. As much as they love the company of their mares, they really hope to re-home them with someone that has the patience and the skills to train an Alberta Wildie. The owners are true Wild Horse advocates and would have loved to see these hor

In 1665, the first horses known as the Canadian Horse breed, were sent to Canada, from France. Our Alberta Wildie, has Canadian Horse, in their DNA. They also show mixed breeds of Draft, and Indian Pony, with influence of Iberian. These results come from the hair samples we collected and sent to world renowned geneticist, Dr. Gus Cothran, at Texas A&M University. ALL of these breeds we mention are considered endangered. Imagine that only 7 years ago, the Alberta government agenda was to remove t

Goliath, is a stunning Alberta Wild Horse. We have now set up some cameras with salt to photograph and video this majestic stallion. Dr. Poissant, with the University of Calgary, labelled these free roaming horses as "unique to Alberta", because of the DNA markers which show a very strong connection to the Iberian horse, particularly the Andalusian . Goliath is a prime example. The Alberta Wildie, also shows DNA markers from various breeds of Draft, Canadian Horse, and Indian Pony. | Help Albert

The Wild Horses take refuge in the forest from the elements of nature. Just walking into trees from the meadow you can feel about a ten degree drop in temperature. We affectionately call this spot the "Winter Barn". The video begins with Maverick, holding off a challenger for his mares. | Help Alberta Wildies Society

FHAC Update: Today's meeting went pretty good. Although we are bound by confidentiality, here's what we can tell you. The Gov't folks heard from ALL of the stakeholders today, in a very loud and clear fashion. They took lots of notes and will now try to prepare a framework of what a long term management plan might look like. This will happen over the summer and be ready for us to have a look at in September. Although HAWS and WHOAS are on opposite ends of the planet from some of the other intere

Alberta Wild Horse Available: We had more questions than answers about this horse, so today, ... we went to have a look at him. It turns out that he is not actually halter broke, but has been in one before. In my opinion, I would think this horse is more likely about a 5 yr. old. He is built like a tank. Upon arrival, this horse was pretty nervous about me. Within a few minutes we were communicating and touching. I noticed he quickly started to trust, and was far more accepting of me. I spent an

Sierra, is an Alberta Wild Horse, that we rescued back in April 2014. As a two year old filly, she was found totally emaciated and entangled in a barbed wire fence. That was a terrible winter with extremely deep snow, and she was infested with wood ticks. She was brought back to the North 40 Ranch, and rehabbed into this stunning looking mare. In 2016, she went to become a companion mare to our niece's horse in Medicine Hat, Alberta. Sadly, last fall, our niece's horse passed away and Sierra, we

HAWS has been rescuing wild foals and euthenizing wild horses since 2014. This is always done with RCMP notification and a police file opened with full disclosure as to location and circumstances leading to the call. HAWS continues to do this under authorization of a capture permit issued by the Rangeland department of Forestry and Parks. Whenever a rescue is conducted, HAWS will get the foal to Veterniary care asap, and spend whatever is necessary to try and save the foal's life. If deemed nece
