Have you ever seen an echidna train? 🤔 This amazing and rare footage of an echidna train was taken on Kangaroo Island by Maren ❤️ “What is an echinda train, you may ask... it's a unique mating ritual, sometimes lasting up to 6 weeks, where a single female echidna is followed by a number of males looking to mate with her.” “Over time, the train becomes shorter, and eventually the last remaining male is accepted as a breeding partner.” 🎥: Maren Norris via Exceptional Kangaroo Island #abcmyvideo

They use their backwards-pointing feet as a natural rudder, and their snout works as a little snorkel. They also have a low body temperature, so often head to pools of water to cool down on hot days. 🌡️ 📹: Kangaroo Island Bush Getaway Adventures | ABC Landline

Did you know there were blonde echidnas? They're part of a sub-species found on Kangaroo Island, ‘Tachyglossus aculeatus multiaculeatus’. In this clip from ‘The Ecidhna (or Spiny Anteater)’, a 1969 documentary made by the CSIRO, the ‘straw-coloured’ animal is observed trundling through the bush, burrowing in leaf litter, and splitting wood to get at snacks. Animal documentaries of the era often leaned into playful narration – wombat in the snow, a platypus riding a current – but CSIRO, working h
