This one is a leap 30 years back in time to 1993. This was the first airshow video I made. I was the videographer for the USMC El Toro Command Museum back then and was given special access to film this demonstration up close. On Apr. 24, 1988 at Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) El Toro during air show, Marine Corps pilot Col. Jerry Cadick crashed while performing one of his maneuvers. Col Cadick incredibly survived a 75G force impact with serious injuries to his entire body. He made the comment after the crash, “The only thing I didn’t break was my earlobes”. For 60 years, Irvine was home to MCAS El Toro. 🇺🇸 In 2018, voters approved a veterans cemetery on part of that historic land — known as the ARDA site — chosen specifically for its control tower and hangars tied to Southern California’s military history. Now, the City Council is considering a different approach. Instead of a state-run veterans cemetery, Irvine is discussing a municipal columbarium at the Great Park.
