Last night at our Peterhead children’s class we introduced an applied Kumite fundamentals drill utilising belt tags. Chinto kata teaches balance, agility, and large contractions and expansions among other feelings. Its bunkai uses many throws, escapes from seizing, body drops and an aggressive use of legs. The distance (maai) of the kata alternates between close and far, culminating in oi zuki. When you see longer stances and shuffles in this kata, think of them as throws, locks, trips, and cuts.
