'A little bit of bread and no cheeeeese' - the iconic song of the Yellowhammer, associated with warm, sunny country walks and hazy afternoons. Yellowhammers are seed eaters, predominantly eating grass seeds, however they feed their chicks, insects. They are often seen foraging and feeding on the ground throughout the year and will join larger flocks of finches in the winter. They also nest on or close to the ground, like so many of our countryside birds. Yellowhammers are in the 'bunting' family
