Medgar Evers was a pioneering civil rights activist, NAACP field officer, and distinguished WWII veteran. Targeted for his civil rights work, Evers was shot and killed in his own driveway in 1963 - today is the anniversary of his tragic death. He was buried at Arlington National Cemetery, in front of a crowd of 3,000. In 1964, two all-white juries allowed the murderer, Byron De La Beckwith, to go free.
